Neil MacVicar - Therapist & Counsellor

Welcome to My Profile

Hello and thank you for visiting my profile. As human beings, we sometimes struggle with different aspects of our lives. Counselling can support you to make changes to address these struggles. As a trained and experienced counsellor, I provide a safe and supportive space to explore what brings you to therapy. By working together, we can examine and understand what is going on and begin to work out how you can live a more fulfilling life.

Where to begin?

Starting counselling can be nerve-wracking. Trying to figure out by yourself what is going on in your life may feel like a difficult and lonely task and identifying the issues involved an impossible one. You may feel anxious and depressed, with life feeling empty. Relationship difficulties, low self-esteem and previous trauma may be troubling you. It may be work stress or family issues are impacting your day-to-day life. It could be that something not mentioned above is affecting you and you would like to work through this.

What working with me will look like

Our first few sessions will be focused on getting to know each other, understanding what is going on for you and identifying what we may look to work on. All our sessions will be confidential, and I will help you to feel at ease, creating a trusting bond between us. Then we can start to work through what may be troubling you and identify ways and skills to help you through your struggles.

Why Choose Humanistic Counselling?

  • Promote Self-Awareness and Self-Acceptance: Explore your thoughts and feelings in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. Gain a deeper understanding of yourself and embrace who you truly are.
  • Foster Personal Growth and Self-Actualisation: Pursue your goals and aspirations with confidence. This approach empowers you to reach new heights and live a more meaningful life.
  • Enhance Emotional Well-Being: Experience a reduction in stress, anxiety, and depression. Improve your overall emotional health by expressing your emotions freely and finding clarity.
  • Improve Relationships: Strengthen your connections with others. Develop better communication skills and enhance your empathy, leading to more satisfying and supportive relationships.
  • Encourage Authenticity and Congruence: Align your actions with your true self. Live authentically and enjoy a life that is consistent with your values and beliefs.
  • Develop Coping Strategies: Build resilience and learn effective ways to handle life’s challenges. Understand your strengths and leverage them to overcome adversity.
  • Support Autonomy and Empowerment: Take control of your life. Make decisions with confidence and take responsibility for your actions, leading to a greater sense of empowerment.
  • Enhance Creativity and Problem-Solving: Approach problems with fresh perspectives. Discover innovative solutions and unleash your creative potential.

About me

I am a BACP Registered Counsellor, I trained at CPPD in Humanistic Integrative Counselling achieving an Advanced Diploma. My training allows me to use a range of different psychotherapeutic traditions to best support your unique and individual needs, whilst also providing a warm and friendly atmosphere for our sessions. I have years of experience with clients from various backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures and gender identities. I work in both long and short-term approaches, finding a method that is best for you.

Before my training, I worked in a range of sectors including construction and hospitality. I also worked in the charity sector as a mental health support worker and with young adults following a cancer diagnosis.
