Hi, my name is Adam and I’m an integrative psychotherapist working in Walthamstow, Tottenham and online
My therapeutic approach is pluralistic. I recognise that what works for one person may not work for another. You might want to move through a period of depression, learn to cope better with anxiety, improve your relationships, or simply try to unpick the feeling that something in your life isn’t right and you’d like things to be different.
How we approach our work together depends on you: where you are in life, what you’d like to address, how quickly and deeply you’d like to explore an issue. I’m trained in a few different styles of therapy, so we can find the one that works for you. What I offer everyone is an environment where you can begin to understand the meanings and motivations behind why you feel the way you do.
I work in a way that does not pathologise sexuality or gender, and with an understanding that issues of class, race and culture impact how we experience the world. Sometimes it’s not us that needs to change, sometimes the problem is in society.
If you’re interested in starting therapy, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We can schedule a free 15-minute consultation to decide if you might want to work with me.
How I work
In our first few sessions we’ll spend some time exploring what brought you to therapy and what you’re looking to get out of it. You may already be aware of some of the things you’d like to address, and maybe not. We can work together longer-term to address a deeper issue you feel you’d like the time and space to unpack. Or we can work shorter-term on some specific things.
My approach is based on the premise that behind our thoughts and behaviours sit motivations, conflicts and feelings that are often out of sight to us. In the therapy room we gently bring these into view and examine them. I do this by listening to your story, asking lots of simple questions, and offering observations for you to consider.
With more knowledge about how and why we act the way we do, we can make choices more in line with who we want to be, and live with greater clarity and purpose. Often, therapy can help us clarify a lot about our lives: how we want to live, who we want to be. A lot of our pain and unease can come from a vague sense that something is not right in life. If that’s the case, this approach might help.
My role is to facilitate, to help ensure that your exploration feels safe, rewarding, and offer some pointers along the way. If this sounds interesting, then don’t hesitate to get in touch to arrange a consultation.
