Hello, my name is Monika
I am a qualified integrative psychotherapist accredited by UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and EMDR Therapist (Level 1, 2 and 3) working towards accreditation by EMDR Association.
My approach
Working as an integrative psychotherapist means that I tailor my approach to individual clients’ needs according to their unique life experiences and preferences, to help them develop a greater sense of self-awareness, self-compassion, and resilience. At the heart of my practice is the therapeutic relationship and that through this, the client will have different experiences of relating with others which leads to positive shifts, over time, in their lives. I am trained to work with a broad range of tools including talking and play/arts therapy. My work is grounded in the principles of psychodynamic psychotherapy, play therapy, sand play therapy, and mindfulness-based therapy. I also offer EMDR therapy which can help with a range of issues. Using these therapeutic approaches, I aim to create a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their emotions, thoughts, and experiences through creative and expressive techniques.
Who do I work with?
I am trained to work with children of all ages, adolescents, and adults. I provide open-ended psychotherapy to clients who would like to explore their past and its impact on their present lives. I also work short-term with people who may have a specific goal or problem they want to address and process.
I provide Reflective Parenting Sessions with aim to promote family relationships and reduce parent-child conflicts. Parents can expect to develop a better understanding of their child’s emotions and behaviours, helping the child to feel both understood and of value.
I work with clients from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
What do I work with?
Areas I’ve worked with include anxiety, low mood, depression, relationship issues, attachment issues, substance misuse, bullying, anger, grief, life changes, gender and sexuality, family issues, complex trauma, abuse, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, loneliness, self-esteem issues, and eating disorders.
Areas of interest
Impact of complex trauma on brain and body are at a core of my interests. My work is supported by current developments in neuroscience and attachment theory. I am especially interested in polyvagal theory which provides a framework for understanding the body’s autonomic nervous system and its reaction to stress.
