When emotional problems arise it can be difficult to acknowledge them and know where to turn. Your search for help may have begun with difficulties in your relationships or feeling stuck, lost, overwhelmed or frustrated. Considering therapy can stir up a range of feelings including shame, fear and doubt. Yet it has the potential to be a life changing experience. The good news is, that by entering into the search for help, the process has already begun.
I am a Clinical Psychologist, specialising with children, adolescents, parents and families. I have worked in NHS psychological services for over 10 years with children, adolescents and families who face a range of physical and mental health challenges.
How do I work?
I start by listening from a position of respect. Most often families seek therapeutic help because they have found themselves facing challenges that they are struggling to overcome without help. Sometimes they have few ways of coping or else the ways they do seem to make things worse. However you arrive, I will listen carefully to your experiences and the areas of your (or your child’s) life that have become challenging.
I aim to support you to make sense of the troubling aspects of your or your child’s life. From this understanding, new ways of coping and relating can be discovered which can lead to an increased sense of freedom and enjoyment in individual and/or family life with less conflict.
Beginning:
I find that it can be helpful to begin with a three session assessment. This gives us an opportunity to think together while also allowing space in between sessions for observation and reflection. At the end of these sessions we can discuss our fit and whether you want to continue. Ongoing therapeutic work would take place once weekly, at the same time each week. Therapeutic work can be time limited or open ended and we can think together about this during your assessment.
